New Synergy Group applies  agile methods in conjunction with lean thinking and methods, and systems thinking and system dynamics to improve effectiveness, productivity and quality of software-intensive enterprise’s people and teams, software projects and processes, and organizational dynamics. It also helps your enterprise develop intellectual property in a cost-effective way.  

B. Unique Competencies of New Synergy Group

New Synergy Group has unique competencies to serve its mission and also meet the challenges posed by agile software project management. 

Dr. Satish Thatte, CEO of New Synergy Group, is a talented and veteran technology executive with consistent record of success in software engineering, product development, project management, product management, research and development, intellectual property development, IT professional services, and other areas.   He has 30 years of experience with global corporations as well as technology start-ups in a wide variety of technology sectors (enterprise software, data center management, digital television, telecommunication, content management, and internet).

Dr. Thatte’s extensive industry experience includes leading project and software development life cycles covering global development and delivery of software; establishing global software development programs in the US, Russia, and India; and helping establish an off-shore development center in India and facilitating revenue growth.

Dr. Thatte is a Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) and a Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO).  He received M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

  • As Vice President of Enterprise Solutions at The Digital Group (Princeton, NJ), Dr. Thatte developed and implemented an agile software development process (called OptiMax) which was customized for client-specific enterprise software solutions developed in a highly distributed global environment (on-site requirements engineering, on-site/off-site architecture and design, and off-shore code development and testing).
  • As Vice President of Engineering at Connotate Technologies (New Brunswick, NJ), Dr. Thatte developed and implemented an agile software development process (called MindPro) which was customized for C#.Net development environment for both packaged delivery of software products as well as hosted service delivery.

  • As Vice President of Engineering at Planet Associates (Neptune, NJ), Dr. Thatte developed and implemented an agile software development process (called TriStar) which was customized to cover the entire software product lifecycle (product management, requirements engineering, architecture and design, code development, quality assurance, product release, delivery, and customer support) for multiple versions of several product lines under concurrent development and support.
  • As Director of Internet Information Management Products at Bellcore (now Telcordia), he used an ISO-9000 and CMM Level-3 compliant software development process (customized for rapid software development life cycle) for developing several Internet-based products.

Dr. Thatte's experience covers all four major types of work areas shown in Figure 1, which is essential to apply systems thinking holistically.  Here are some specific examples of Dr. Thatte’s unique blend of expertise and experiences:

  • Software Product Development Management: As Director of Internet Information Management Products at Bellcore (now Telcordia), he managed the development teams for several products such as a system for targeted advertisement for the Web, Intranet content management system, Internet-based customer service system, Intranet-based corporate purchase system.  As Vice President of Engineering at Connotate Technologies, he managed the development and quality assurance teams responsible for web-based data mining products.  As Vice President of Engineering at Planet Associates, he managed geographically distributed (US, UK, Russia), development, quality assurance and customer support teams for several products aimed at data center management.
  • IT Professional Service Management:  As Director of Internet Information Management Products at Bellcore (now Telcordia), he managed the computer technology consulting and technology evaluation services offered to Regional Bell Operating Companies (RBOCs).  As Vice President for Enterprise Solutions at The Digital Group, he managed the client-specific software development projects as a commercial service, and developed and managed its global delivery model.  
  • Product Management: Dr. Thatte worked as Director of Product Management at Triveni Digital (a subsidiary of LG Electronics) responsible for market analysis, product features definition, product positioning for a number of very innovative products in the area of digital television (DTV): both consumer products (Digital set-top boxes, interactive TV guides, digital TV recorders) and commercial products (Interactive TV guide information generators, data broadcasting, interactive TV content generation, digital TV stream analysis, etc.).   As Director of Product Management, he interacted and collaborated with Engineering Teams to ensure that products specified by product management teams get implemented by Engineering teams.
  • Innovation and Innovation Management:  Dr. Thatte worked for 13 years on a number of research projects at Texas Instruments covering a range of technologies, and also successful technology transfer from research labs to product divisions.  Dr. Thatte has been awarded 14 patents (13 US and one International) for his innovations at Texas Instruments Corporate Research Labs.  He has also managed patents development process and helped develop and file over a dozen patents at Triveni Digital (a subsidiary of LG Electronics) in only two years.   At Bellcore, Dr. Thatte led product development teams receiving technologies developed by research labs at Bellcore.   He has worked on and resolved technology transfer issues from research labs to product divisions working on both ends of the spectrum.
Here are examples of Dr. Thatte’s career accomplishments based on these competencies:
  • Overseeing complete software development life cycles and product/project life cycles for global companies (Bellcore /Telcordia) to start-up companies
  • Managing the development and delivery of 15 commercial software products (and their multiple versions) at four companies
  • Maximizing the global software development and delivery process at The Digital Group by establishing a 60-person offshore development center in India
  • Producing $4M in only two years by creating a new Enterprise Solutions business division at The Digital Group focusing on providing client-specific enterprise software solutions
  • Spearheading a $5M revenue increase by implementing a Product Management and Quality Assurance facility for Triveni Digital and creating the company name, logo, brand, and development processes
Dr. Thatte is Senior Member of the IEEE and Member of the ACM.  He serves as Director of Modeling and Simulation at the Conscious Capitalism Institute.
